Breed Standard

American Drentsche Patrijshond Association

What is a Breed Standard? Per the AKC, "The breed standard is an in-depth, written description of how the ideal dogs in a breed should look, move, and act. Standards spell out the breed’s physical characteristics that give it its unique shape, movement, and overall appearance and enable it to perform the job its original developers intended."

The Breed Standard serves as an important document to educate conformation judges and guide breeders who wish to preserve the unique form and function of the Drentsche Patrijshond.

How was this Breed Standard developed? The ADPA Breed Standard for the Drentsche Patrijshond is an exact copy of the English translation FCI (international) Breed Standard for the Drentsche Patrijshond, organized into the AKC format for breed standards. The two changes include:

1) The addition of the Short Historical Overview section.

2) Change of the statement "The length of the upper arm is slightly less than the length of the shoulder blade." to "The length of the upper arm is approaching the length of the shoulder blade."
